The latest trailer just hit for the new X-MEN film. Although the Super Bowl cut is only 30 seconds there’s a few geek-gasms to be had. This is our best look at the third FIRST CLASS movie. There isn’t a lot of story revealed, but we got a few quick glances at some massive carnage and our new heroes.

Screenshots:
Aside from seeing cities get torn apart, and Magneto (Michael Fassbender) with Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence) wondering how the hell to fight back, we also get to meet some of our new heroes. We see Storm as one of the 4 Horsemen of the apocalypse, before Xavier turns her good. We briefly see Jean Grey (Sophie Turner, Sansa Stark from GAME OF THRONES) react to the city’s destruction. We also get a good look at Cyclops using his optic blast.

It took a while, but those that collected X-MEN comics during the 90s boom are all old enough to make these superhero films themselves. Is the audience better off for it? Or like the 90s will we see a deflation soon? It looks like we have another end of the world scenario here. Will Bryan Singer’s style be enough to freshen up this familiar tale? The original source material focuses on character, have the movies lost the true vision here?

The best moment of the trailer was the reveal of Psylocke (Olivia Munn), using her psi-blade and katana to slice through a car as she falls from the sky. She lands, her hair flowing like she’s on CHARLIE’S ANGELS in the 70s. Who would have thought this was the costume from the comics that Hollywood would use? Wait a sec, of course they would. . Plus, she’s totally bad-ass, psychic ninja style. Regardless, 90s comic fans should be grinning ear to ear.

Apocalypse (Oscar Issac a.k.a. Poe Dameron from STAR WARS) looks a lot better than the earlier Entertainment Weekly pictures, that had him looking like Victor Von Ooze from POWER RANGERS. Under the correct lighting the villain looks less purple and more grey – appropriate for his ethics (think Magneto). The most powerful mutant ever seems to be ripping apart cities like a psychic blast of wind. We once again see him loom over a pinned victim below, as he grows in size. This time the scariest moment is when he leers at the camera.
